While rather expensive, the location is wonderful. Our cabana was literally steps from the beach and with sea views. It was spacious (particularly the bathroom) and clean. The bed was comfortable although the mosquito net was a nuisance (could have been installed better). Really it is all about location, and this one is hard to beat.
Breakfast was useless. toast was more like warm bread. the plate of fruit was just ok. we asked for water which never came. Having to send half by bank transfer in advance is a bit annoying nowadays and the lady proprieter initially seemed dubious about our having paid half despite copies of transfer etc. Overall, though, it was a wonderfuol experience.
Relaxed atmosphere in a fabulous location. Step straight off your terraza & pad barefoot down the soft golden sand path to hit the beach. Heaven! The guys will bring you shrimp ceviche & a chilled corona to enjoy on your sun-lounger .. what more could you ask for! Lovely people, lovely place.
Wonderful people; nice accommodations; yoga classes, massages available.
All good. Although, as an early riser, availability of coffee at an earlier hour would be nice.
Good location on the beach.
There we blood stains on the sheets and on one of the towels. No safe in the room and you can't really lock the doors from the inside, so don't bring any valuables. Electricity is only from 6pm to 11pm, which I didn't realize until after I had already paid for my reservation (which they make you do via PayPal within 48 hours of booking). Go elsewhere.
The hotel is located on a parfect part of the Tulum beach.
This hotel had no services at all. Although the room was cleaned, the towels were not changed daily. There were no sockets in the room to charge a mobile phone. Most of the time, electricity was out. That means everything was completely dark, so you need to bring a flashlight in order to find your way in your room and around the hotel after sunset. The place obviously has a problem with electricity supply. The water in the shower is very weak, so, it's difficult to take a shower. Breakfast consisted of just jam and bread.
The location is the only good thing about Retiro Maya as it is right on the beach.
We were very disappointed with our three-night stay here. It wasn't good value for money (list price of $95 a night - through Booked.net we got a cheaper rate, but it was still overpriced in our opinion). We were aware this was a rustic place and there wouldn't be electricity the whole time, but the lights didn't even come on in our room until an hour after it went dark, so we had to use a torch. The sheets and towels were stained. The bathroom wasn't particularly clean and the bin for the toilet paper wasn't emptied daily. The staff seemed disinterested and I didn't feel we were given very good customer service at all. Stay somewhere else. This was not a relaxing stay!
Beautilfu location, good price to value
Breakfasts and the restaurant in general could use some improvement (menu, service)
Lovely location, great staff, low-key.
I liked everything. Those looking to book this lodging should know it's on the rustic side - but we found it quite delightful. Higher-end stuff can always be found; this place is great for a low ecological impact stay.
We were upgraded for free to a beach front property. The owner was really friendly.
The cabana was a rustica as they say in Mexico..lovely beach setting, birds chirping, beautiful, uncrowded sandy beach with nice chairs and beach towels. The 2 hour Yoga class was relaxing and they had a nice studio. But for the money..the staff was a little deceiving about the power and the overall availability of food and drink was a little weak the mattresses were hard, with foam toppers that did not reach edges, linens were cheap. There were many of these settings down the beach for better prices..it was very rustic for the money.
The beach was beutiful and it was very quiet and relaxing.
Terrible breakfast for 120mxn and the place looks like they stopped doing maintenance some time ago. We moved after three nights to one of their neighbours called Plaza Azul. This place costs a bit more but you get a really nice place!
It was an absolute dissapointment beyond all expectations. No value for the money at all. Very uncomfortable and inconsiderate atmosphere.
Our room was a few meters from the beach. No kids.
Overpriced for what it was. Had to drive or walk someplace for every meal. During the day the noise from the renovations of the owners house next door made us have to go to a different beach.
It is a nice beach but that is all. 10 usd would be the fair price for this horrible bambus houses full of moscitos. No restaurant, no owner, nothing positive at this place at all.
Don´t go!! The owner and the stuff donßt even try to make it a more nicer place. They could at least have a normal bed with a well maintained moscito net... Don´t mess your holliday while staying at this place. The beach is good so luck of an other place at this beach to stay!
